Austin Public Library is a library service in Austin, Texas, United States. It is operated by the City of Austin. The John Henry Faulk Central Library at 800 Guadalupe Street is the main branch; opening in 1979. It is on five stories (the first three open to the public, with the fourth floor reserved for the administrative offices, and the basement reserved for storage/utilities). The Austin History Center at 810 Guadalupe Street (immediately adjacent to the 1979 building) was formerly the main library of Austin when opened in 1933 to replace the first library building, an wood-frame structure opened in 1926, which was moved to become the first branch of the library and currently is part of the Carver Museum.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Fact Sheet )〕 In the spring of 2013, the city broke ground on a new central library building to be in operation by 2016; the building will be 170,000 sq. ft., expandable to about 250,000 sq. ft., and is part of the city's extensive redevelopment of the former Seaholm power plant site, west of the intersection of Lamar Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Street. Each branch library, no matter how busy, is closed either on Thursday or Friday and none are open on Sundays.
